A prominent Nigerian politician has criticised Kemi Badenoch and the UK for being a country where "Christians are derided" and "churches are empty", stating that while Nigeria might be poor, “at least we hold fast to our Christian and Muslim values, we know God, and we will not burn in hell for eternity for trying to replace Him”.
The criticism comes after UK Conservative party leader Badenoch, in her first major speech of the year, reflected on her childhood in Nigeria, stating that she had “lived with the consequences of terrible governments that destroy lives, and I never, ever want it to happen here”. In a barrage of abuse, Femi Fani-Kayode, a member of the All Progressives Congress, Nigeria’s ruling party, former Minister of Aviation, and one of Nigeria’s best-known politicians, posted to his 1.3 million followers on X that the Badenoch is an “Aunty Jemima” (a black woman perceived as acting in the interests of whites) and a "house n*gger". He also claimed that the UK is a country where “homosexuality and bisexuality are encouraged, paedophilia is celebrated, transgenders are empowered, bestiality is tolerated, gender is eroded, perverts, deviants, and child predators hold sway, children are gang-raped, and politicians are paedophiles”. Fani-Kayode further claimed that in the UK, “Christians are derided, Muslims are hated, churches are empty, mosques are bombed,” and that Zionists are worshipped while war criminals are made leaders. He concluded his rant by stating that while Nigeria might be poor, “at least we hold fast to our Christian and Muslim values, we know God, and we will not burn in hell for eternity for trying to replace Him”. Fani-Kayode attended four UK independent schools, including Harrow. He earned a law degree from the University of London in 1983 and completed a master’s in law at Cambridge University in 1984, after which he attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985. Both his father and grandfather also attended Cambridge. Despite his criticism of British morality, Fani-Kayode has been married four times, with his most recent wife being 27 years his junior. His fourth marriage was declared null and void after it was shown that he was still legally married to his third wife. His fourth wife has stated that Fani-Kayode was frustrated by not having sons with his previous wives and insisted on sex-selective IVF to produce one. She has also accused him of being physically abusive, including during her pregnancy. He began his political career in 1989 as the National Youth Leader of the National Republican Convention (NRC) during Nigeria’s Second Republic. He later served as a member of the Nigerian Presidential Advisory Council in 2003, became the Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Olusegun Obasanjo, and held two ministerial positions: Minister of Culture and Tourism in 2006 and Minister of Aviation from 2006 to 2007. In August 2020, Fani-Kayode was filmed verbally attacking a journalist who inquired about the funding of his tour. In the video, which was widely circulated online, Fani-Kayode calls the journalist "stupid" and warns him, "Don't ever talk to me like that". Fani-Kayode, in a previous social media post, also claimed that “the City of London remains the world's capital for money laundering”. However, he has faced multiple charges of money laundering, including a 47-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2008, related to the alleged misappropriation of funds during his tenure as Minister of Aviation. Although he was acquitted of these charges in 2015, he has faced additional allegations since then, including accusations of financial misconduct and forgery of documents to evade court appearances. In recent X posts, Fani-Kayode has also congratulated Donald Trump, criticised Keir Starmer's response to the grooming gang scandal, reposted Charlie Kirk, Matt Walsh, and Andrew Tate, and wished his first wife a happy birthday by saying, “I will love you forever.” (Getty)
